Manuel Cantalapiedra

Manu start een klein en persoonlijk project voor zichzelf en neemt met deze wijnen op speelse wijze 'wat meer risico'.

De familie Cantalapiedra bezit ongeveer 20 hectare in het gebied la Seca, op 750 meter hoogte en ten hoogte van Madrid. Manuel maakt deel uit van de huidige generatie en heeft een duidelijke visie; rijpere stijl Verdejo van biologische druiven. Daarnaast hebben ze drie single vineyards genaamd: 'Chiviritero', 'Los Picones' en 'La Otea' en sinds kort is hij ook begonnen met een project in Toro waar hij met de inheemse druif Tinto de Toro een hele fraaie rode wijn maakt. Inmiddels is de hele serie in ons assortiment en bijna niet meer weg te denken in de topgastronomie.

Review

The 2023 Campanella was produced with Garnacha and a little bit of Cariñena from a very young vineyard in the village of Villafranca de Duero. It has very expressive aromas that are bright, floral and intoxicating, with tons of aromatic herbs, notes of orange peel and grenadine and a bitter twist in the finish. The grapes were harvested on October 23 with extreme ripeness (15%) but keeping a very good pH. It fermented with 100% full clusters and matured in a used 600-liter barrel. It has a juicy palate and abundant tannins. It develops a note of menthol and honey with time in the glass, giving it a little Châteauneuf whiff. The late harvest was basically an accident, but he's going to replicate it in future vintages. This first year, he purchased the grapes, and in 2024, he purchased the vineyard. The vineyard is larger, and after this experience, he will make more of this wine in the future (hoping to make 5,000 bottles). In 2023, he only produced 800 bottles. It was bottled in April 2025.
