Wanneer Alfredo in 2001 zijn architectpotloden inruilt voor een wijngoed in de Priorat, begint zijn nieuwe carriere als wijnmaker De start is in het klassieke hart, Clos de Portal en is langzaam uitgewaaid naar Montsant en de hooggelegen delen van Montsant. In het koele noorden is er toch meer frisheid in de wijn te vinden. Na meerdere stappen bouwt hij in 2016 een splinternieuwe kelder voorzien van alle gemakken. Volledig biodynamisch werken is voor hem ook eerder logisch dan nieuw, dat proef je ook terug. Een topproducent gelegen in een van de mooiste gebieden van Spanje, waar in de Priorat een klassieke stijl wordt gemaakt, in het noorden elegant en aan de kust wijnen met meer structuur en rijpheid!

There was some volatility in the 2013 Trossos Tros Blanc Saleres that was sourced from a single plot of vines called Saleres, pure Garnacha Blanca from biodynamically-farmed vines in the village of El Masroig close to the Siurana river. The must fermented in two 500-liter oak barrels where it was raised in contact with the lees for eight months. The nose was not as focused and precise as the 2012, the creamy oak felt a bit dominant, and while the palate had good acidity I preferred the 2012. 723 bottles produced.

Alfredo Arribas has a number of projects and the one carrying his name is the one releasing the wines from the Montsant appellation. This was once called Portal del Montsant, but he abandoned that project to focus on the Trossos range of wines form old vines. Don't worry if you get confused with all those Tros, Trossos, Trossos Tros and Clos del Tros... I do too!
