Henri & Gilles Buisson
Review
Notions of rich cherries, berries, loamy soil and bitter chocolate preface the 2020 Saint-Romain Combe Bazin, a medium to full-bodied, lively and refined wine framed by powdery tannins and lively acids. This younger vine bottling is generally the most immediate red in the range, but in the 2020 vintage, it appears to have acquired another dimension of seriousness. 90/100 William Kelley
Franck and Frédérick Buisson continue to establish themselves as the reference point for Saint-Romain. This 19-hectare domaine has been estate bottling since the late 1940s and farming organically since the 1970s. White grapes are sorted, crushed and pressed for two and a half hours, and musts are barreled down with minimal settling. Reds see a gentle extract. The result is elegantly textural, chiseled wines that can age very well but are also hard to resist young. In ever warmer vintages, these wines seem to go from strength to strength, and everything here comes warmly recommended.
