Same as with the rest of the portfolio, the two vintages I tasted side by side could no be more different. The 2016 Espenyalluchs—a single-vineyard Xarello from vines planted in 2011—is sharper and more austere, and it seems to have a little more volume and at the same time higher acidity. All vineyards are biodynamic, and the wines ferment and age without any corrections or products. It fermented in well-seasoned 300-liter French barriques, where it aged for some eight months. This was very harmonious and subtle, nuanced and elegant. The palate is vibrant with lively acidity and focused, chalky flavors that give the wine a sense of precision and harmony that was captivating. 2,260 bottles were filled in May 2017.

Enric Soler works with 1.2 hectares of old vines ranging between 40 and 70 years of age and a further hectare of eight-year-old vines in the Cal Raspallet property in Font-Rubí in Penedès where they specialize in white wines from Xarello grapes. He only produces 9,000 bottles per year divided into three wines. - Luis Guttiérez 92/100
