Domaine de Montille
Dit uit de 17 eeuw stammende wijngoed staat onder regie van Etienne en Alix de Montille. Het duo produceert wijnen uit iets meer dan 20 verschillende appelaties in de Bourgogne. Waar papa in de jaren '80 en '90 zich mocht rekenen tot een van de de allerbeste Pinot Noir producenten op deze aardbol pakken broer en zus Montille het veel breder aan. Zo werd Château de Puligny-Montrachet gekocht met een enorm sterk portfolio wijngaarden (vooral Chardonnay) en starte Alix haar eigen negocé (Maison Montille). Sinds onze start in de samenwerking proefde we in de oogst van 2014 wit en rood 2011 al een enorme positieve ontwikkeling door. Alix getrouwd met JM Roulot in Meursault richt zich steeds meer op de witte wijnen.
Review
The 2019 Corton Grand Cru Clos du Roi is one of the high points of the range. Revealing aromas of sweet berry fruit, rose petals, orange rind and spices and framed by a discreet patina of classy new oak, it's medium to full-bodied, concentrated and multidimensional, with a rich and vibrant core of fruit, lively acids and a long, penetrating finish. 94+/100 William Kelley
Domaine de Montille's cellars are cold, and élevage is unhurried. These are often among the harder wines to read during my fall barrel tastings. So, this year, I asked winemaker Brian Sieve to instead present some finished 2019s in bottle. The vintage has turned out beautifully, delivering moderate alcohols (up to 13.5%) and terrific concentration in both colors. Fine-boned and elegant, the whites are tightly wound and built to age, and the reds are supple, charming and perfumed.
