Immich Batterieberg

De man achter de wijnen van Immich-Batterieberg is Gernot Kollman. Na stages bij Dr.Loosen, van Volxem en 4 jaar bij Weingut Knebel, besloot hij in 2009 het toen failliete wijngoed Immich Batterieberg te kopen om daar zijn eigen wijn te produceren. Gernot staat bekend om zijn fraaie beendroge stijl Riesling die hij spontaan vergist op eikenhouten voeders in de Mosel. Minder restzoet, maar een spatzuivere, energieke levendige wijn met een betere expressie van de wijngaard. Een Riesling met enorme klasse!

Review

The 2021 Riesling Kabinett Trocken CAI offers a deep and pure as well as aromatic and slate-driven bouquet with ripe and elegant Riesling aromas. Lush and supple but refined and elegant on the palate, this is a medium to full-bodied, pure, fresh and saline/crystalline but full-flavored and textured dry Kabinett with stunning substance and juicy, ripe fruit but just 10% stated alcohol. It has a saline and stimulatingly fresh finish. It was bottled with about 21 to 22 milligrams of free SO2, which is lower than in previous years and possibly causing the suppleness and textural qualities of this serious dry Riesling. A gorgeous Kabinett! Tasted in October 2022. 90/100 Stephan Reinhardt

Yielding only 17 hectoliters per hectare in 2021, Gernot Kollmann calls the vintage "quite a disaster." Due to Peronospora damages and predatory wild boars, he couldn't bottle the essential Ellergrub or the Zollturm. Also, there is no Reserve wine from 2021, but what was bottled is excellent again, maybe not as exciting as the 2020s and 2019s were, but at least there is still something to buy from the great 2020s.
