Antoniotti

Vader Odille en zoon Mattia bestieren het noordelijke deel van de Piemonte. Na de tweede wereldoorlog is dit gebied ingestort door een leegstroom van de plaatselijke bevolking. Enkele survivors, zoals Antoniontti, maken hier prachtige wijnen van Nebbiolo en plaatselijke Croatina en Vespolina druiven. In de kelder gaat alles op de klassieke manier, vergisting op betonnen tanks en rijpen af op oude eikenhouten vaten. Het eindresultaat is een soort Cru Beaujolais stijl, zeer authentiek en verfijnd met pit van de Nebbiolo.

The 2018 Bramaterra is captivating from the very first taste. Sweet, perfumed and almost intoxicatingly beautiful, the 2018 possesses striking inner sweetness and huge depth, marrying power and elegance to a degree I have not seen in previous vintages. As alluring as the 2018 is today, it is most certainly a wine to put away for at least a handful of years. I especially admire its explosive energy. This is the first vintage made with stems, about 35%. 96/100 Antonio Galloni

2017 Bramaterra, Sostegno – as tasted by DBG & Chloe on Monday 13thJanuary 2020. Remains the classic, vineyard, co-fermented (as per Cantina Bartolo Mascarello) picked at the same time, blend of Nebbiolo 70%, Croatina, 20%, Vespolina 7% & Uva Rara 3%, fermented in (unlined) cement for 3 wks on the skins, with pumping over, before 36 mths ageing in up to 40yo Garbellotto botte grande di 12.5HL. To be bottled, 6k, in Sept’20. Mattia recalls the particularly fresh Sept (nights?) in 2017, that helped produce clean fruit & the ‘bella buccia’ of the 2017 Bramaterra harvest. He also thinks the tiny percentage of Uva Rara made a positive impact on the final wine in this vintage. To taste: it’s got the same lift & precision of the Nebbiolo Costa della Sesia 2017, with real tension, sensational presence & a really beautiful weave of fruit throughout. Magical…their best Bramaterra yet?!
