The farm Contermanskloof was established in 1704 and was bought by the Starke family in 1906, who are currently still farming the land today. "Blouklip" is a type of rock that has been mined on this farm for many years and at present day can also be found in the soil of the vineyard. This wine is 100% Chenin blanc (Steen) made from a single vineyard that was planted on this farm in 1977, situated in the Durbanville ward of Cape Town wine district. The vineyard consists of dry land bush vines, planted in dark decomposed shale soils, situated roughly 10 kilometres from the Atlantic Ocean. This vineyardis passionately farmed by Robert HL Starke.

The idea behind this wine is to tell a story about a specific site, soil and farmer.

'From a 1977 Durbanville vineyard planted on shale. Top notes of fynbos and honeysuckle before naartjie and stone fruit plus a slight nutty, flor-like quality on the nose while the palate displays good weight and tannic texture. Has a real presence about it.' Christian Eedes, rating: 94/100.
